If you are struggling in this period of unknowing, know that it will not last forever, and thank God for the opportunity to grow in trust of him.

As a rule of thumb, you are definitely spending too much time worrying about your vocation if you spend more than 50 percent of time in prayer praying about it. A much healthier percentage would be closer to 25 percent for someone who is in a place to act on a certain vocation, and for someone who cannot enter any vocation in the near future (i.e., if you have not reached the last years of high school or have other practical barriers to entering any vocation), a healthy percentage would be less than 10 percent of your total prayer time. God speaks first through the reality of the world around us: if you can’t act right now, he doesn’t want you to act right now, and you shouldn’t worry yourself too much about the distant future because “tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Let the day’s own trouble be sufficient for the day.” (Mt 6:34).

•Do you ask God about your vocation?

•Are you convinced that the vocation to which God is calling you will bring you the greatest happiness and fulfillment in life?

•What does your prayer look like now? How could you improve your prayer life? What are the concrete details that an improved prayer life would have?

•How often do you attend Mass? Is there a Mass during the week that you could attend?

•How often do you go to confession? When and where are confessions offered in your area?

•Do you regularly make your morning offering? Which version of the morning offering do you know?

•What are some of your favorite or most common spontaneous prayers?

•Have you tried praying with the method called Lectio Divina? How did it go? Have you sought guidance on how to use that form of meditating on the Scriptures more effectively?
